An open letter to the Supreme Court changed the way many Indians thought about women’s rights. The rest should be history.
Read my longform reported essay for Fifty Two in which I trace the history of the women’s movement of the 1970s and 80s which made the conversation on consent and state violence — which we carry forward today — mainstream while leaving a lot unsaid and undone. It’s as much about understanding the history through the present context as asking what’s the way forward given the challenges we face today.
